This program is right for you if you are a beginning teacher.
The Beginning Teachers Program aims to partner with schools in supporting teachers starting out in their careers.
It is well known that the first years of a teacher’s career are crucial to their long-term success in the classroom and their essential role in improving student outcomes. The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) and the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) recognise this, while the Teacher Education Ministerial Advisory Group reported in 2015 that ‘the early years in the classroom are critical to the development of a Beginning Teacher’s practice’.
The program will assign experienced educators (ISV Fellows) to work with each beginning teacher. The ISV Fellows will meet individually with the beginning teachers to encourage and provide guidance, discuss issues, concerns and future directions, as well as meeting with the mentors to discuss induction and mentoring process. The ISV Fellows will meet at the end of each visit with the Principal, or delegate, to provide advice and feedback.
This learning event supports creating best practice toward meeting the following VRQA standard(s):
- Curriculum and Student Learning – Student learning outcomes
- Curriculum and Student Learning – Monitoring and reporting on students’ performance
- Care, Safety and Welfare of Students – Child safety
- Care, Safety and Welfare of Students – Student behaviour management (discipline)
- growth in your capacity as a beginning teacher
- increased confidence through targeted support activities and resources.
