In Australia we have the Australian Quality Teaching Standards to describe what quality teaching looks like. But what does quality learning look like? Learning is not just an active process, it’s also a skilful process. In this insightful and powerful webinar we will unpack the skills and attitudes that teachers must be developing in students in order to help them become increasingly skilful learners. Along the way you’ll discover why our current focus on resilience has been setting the bar too low, and why developing increasingly skilful learners results in students who are anti fragile.

A new Harvard study (The influence of teaching, October 2015), suggests that student agency may be as important an outcome of schooling as basic skills.

James first became interested in how to teach students to become better thinkers as a classroom teacher in the late ‘90s. Later, as a school leader, he spearheaded a national research project focused on infusing Art Costa and Bena Kallick’s Habits of Mind into schools and classrooms.  He is a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), presenting around Australia and overseas. As an author, he has published Succeeding with Habits of Mind and The Agile Learner, as well as numerous e-books. He has published with Art Costa and Bena Kallick ‘Learning and Leading with Habits of Mind’ and ‘Habits of Mind Across the Curriculum’. His regular blogs are also read by thousands of educators around the world.
