This learning event is right for you if you are VCE Further Mathematics and/or General Mathematics teacher wanting to explore the application task and the recursion and financial modelling or problem-solving task
The mathematics study design 2016 – 2021 requires a creative approach to developing SAC material that ensures the application task and the recursion and financial modelling or problem-solving task, genuine in nature and not just an extended collection of axamination 2 questions.
This one-day seminar gives you first hand experience at examining and exploring starting points and creating and developing tasks. Participants will be provided with a selection of application and modelling/problem solving starting points that will be used throughout the day. These will act as stimulus material to initiate discussions and then provide the focus of the investigations and questions that will be posed and explored. The day will be broken into three sessions with each one providing a ‘hands on’ opportunity to create a usable task.
Session 1: Developing an application task: a provided data set will be used as stimulus for developing the direction, focus and detail of your task.
Session 2: Marrying the assessment with the task
Session 3: Developing a recursion and financial modelling task: starting points will be provided.

Kevin is currently the Head of Mathematics Faculty at Mentone Grammar and has extensive experience in mathematics education in a number of schools in Victoria and across all secondary levels. He has presented and facilitated many workshop sessions throughout Eastern Australia at various annual conferences covering a variety of areas including digital technology use within the classroom, CAS calculator use in VCE examinations and enrichment opportunities using AMT materials. He has also been involved in textbook writing, the production of digital content and the writing of VCE trial examinations.
