This learning event is right for you if you are a year P-3 primary teacher wanting to explore techniques to improve mathematical thinking and discussion in your classroom
Participants will extend their understanding of teaching approaches and tasks designed to promote students’ knowledge of mathematics in the early years.
They will consider pedagogical approaches for determining the direction of students’ learning, moving control from the teacher to the students with the aim of maximising students’ opportunities to engage in rich mathematical thinking and discussion.

Dr Sharyn Livy
Dr Sharyn Livy is a lecturer of early years and primary mathematics education in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. She has over 20 years of teaching experiences including, teaching at other universities, working as a mathematics consultant for the Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV), and teaching in primary schools. Sharyn’s research interests are closely linked with teaching in supporting primary pre-service teachers (and teachers) to extend their knowledge of mathematics teaching, including ways to improve pre-service teachers’ university experiences.
