Contemporary leadership roles in schools have been changing for some time. What was once a focus on the efficient and effective management of the school is now being augmented with responsibility for leading the learning of others. The Head of Department is more commonly named Learning Area Leader and accountabilities are more likely to be aligned to instructional leadership rather than the more traditional models. Learn about the latest research on contemporary leadership in schools. Identify your strengths and areas for growth. Discover a range of resources to support your learning.

“Leadership is never something that any one person excels at. Instead, it is a state of being that requires continuous shifting of skills and practices in a way that allows for the sharing of our strengths, and the strengthening of our weaknesses. Whether we are beginning our first leadership role, or coming to the conclusion of our last, leading like new can always help us keep our leadership fresh.”  Fred Ende
