Description
Participants will take part in 3 sessions across the day, covering the following:
Data in Australian schools: Using data in our schools is an increasing priority and focus, and the expectations on teachers are climbing. This session unpacks for leaders and/or teachers, the context of using data, it sets parameters about the ways we talk about and use data, and most importantly, shifts perspectives on how useful and powerful it can be when used well.
Data storytelling using student data: The goal of data use is to engage in data storytelling, as without this, data does not impact young people or teaching practice. In this workshop, staff learn how to look at data, how to identify data stories, and connect the trends and insights in the data to shifts in pedagogical practice.
Data plan development and strategy: A principal recently said, 'so this session will get done what would have taken us 6 months to do?'... And our answer was 'YES!'. If you (or your team) need clarity on what data, when, and how it is used in your school, this workshop will help you answer those questions. We step you through the process of creating your rationale for data use, and you will walk away with a plan for how different user groups in the school are expected to use data.
Key takeaways
- Learn how to make sense of student data, identify trends, and move beyond surface-level reporting to deeper insights that inform practice
- Develop confidence in crafting compelling data stories that engage stakeholders, build buy-in, and communicate insights effectively to drive school-wide conversations
- Use evidence-based decision making frameworks and practical tools for using data strategically to inform leadership decisions, prioritise initiatives, and allocate resources with confidence
- Create a whole-school data plan that clarifies what data to collect, who uses it, when it's reviewed, and how it connects to measurable impact on student outcomes
