Description 

School Board Members are faced with a myriad of challenges as they navigate the role and responsibilities associated with governing a school. To make this less daunting, Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) will be offering a school board-focused one-day governance forum.

Any special dietary requirement may incur an additional cost.

Only Board/Council Members from ISV Member Schools can attend this forum.

Presenter information  

Michelle Green  

Michelle Green has been Chief Executive of Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) since 2002. Michelle came to ISV with extensive experience in managing member organisations, particularly in the health sector, and working with government. She has chaired a variety of organisations in the not-for-profit area, including in health and industrial relations, and has significant experience in practical governance matters. Michelle has been at the forefront of significant change and development in education in Victoria and nationally. To help Member Schools meet these challenges, she has focused ISV on research, governance and relations with governments and media. In advocating for the rights of parents to choose the best education for their children, she believes that they and all Australian schools need financial support to build an education system that serves a creative, modern, diverse and prosperous nation. 

 

Marianne Stillwell BA(Hons), MBA, GradDipEd, MAICD 

Marianne is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors for Independent Schools Victoria (ISV). Marianne has been the President of the Wesley College Council, and has chaired Strategy, Ethics and Governance, and Remuneration Committees. As part of ISV's governance program delivery, Marianne is a regular presenter to Member Schools and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In her professional career, Marianne spent 12 years in finance management roles with Ford Credit Australia Limited, and has 10 years of secondary teaching experience in Catholic and Independent schools. Marianne is currently Chair of Stillwell Motor Group, a family company specialising in prestige motor vehicle retail. 

 

Phillip Gutzner BForSci, DipEd, MBA, FACE 

Philip Grutzner was elected onto the Board of Independent Schools Victoria in May 2011 and is currently the Principal of Melbourne Grammar School. Philip has been an Executive member of the Victorian Branch of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA) and Director of the Association of Ecumenical Schools of Victoria, in which he served as Chairman in 2001.  He has also acted as the South Australian Representative on the Australian Anglican Schools Network, and was a member of the Founding Committee of Christ the King Anglican College in Cobram. In Adelaide Philip served as a Board Member of St Mark’s College and was a member of the Ethics Committee of St Andrew’s Hospital. Since 2014 he has been the AHISA representative on the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) School Leader Quality Advisory Committee. In 2014 Philip was awarded the Fellowship of the Australian College of Educators for his contribution to the advancement of education. Philip is the ISV representative on the Independent Schools Australia (ISA). 

 

Adam Berryman 

Adam Berryman is the founding principal of Risk Management Advisors and has been advising businesses for over 25 years on risk management. He currently assists organisations to conduct their own Risk Management Reviews with a view to developing their risk management framework and understand their organisational risk profile. Adam has also consulted for two major global insurance broking firms. Adam holds a Bachelor of Economics, Graduate Diploma – Insurance and Graduate Diploma – Risk Management. 

 

Nigel Bartlett 

Nigel Bartlett has over 20 years’ experience in providing support and advice to Member Schools in the areas of school finances and data. His particular areas of focus are government funding and data accountabilities to government. 

 

Tom Hyland 

Tom Hyland provides media and communications support to the Chief Executive, ISV staff and Member Schools. He is an experienced journalist and media advisor, having worked in the news media, in higher education and in a government agency.
