This introductory webinar from ISV and LOOKOUT is designed to help independent schools understand the purpose, responsibilities, and impact of the Designated Teacher role in supporting children and young people with care experience. Participants will gain an overview of the role, the skills and knowledge required, and considerations for identifying the most appropriate staff member to undertake this important responsibility. The session will also introduce a full-day Designated Teacher training program to be hosted at ISV for those taking on the role.

LOOKOUT is the Victorian Department of Education's specialist program focused on improving educational outcomes for children and young people with care experience. In partnership with Independent Schools Victoria (ISV), LOOKOUT supports independent schools to build their understanding and capability to meet the needs of these students. Through practical guidance, evidence-informed resources, and professional learning, LOOKOUT helps schools establish effective support structures, including the Designated Teacher role, to promote educational engagement, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for children and young people in care.
