Career practitioners play a pivotal role in schools. In addition to supporting students to navigate their future education and career pathways, they are also instrumental in helping schools achieve broader student outcomes, such as improved student engagement and wellbeing.
The Career Leaders Network Conference brings together career practitioners to share practice, explore ideas, challenge their thinking and further discuss good practice in career education.
The conference will feature:
- a keynote speaker, to provide stimulus for discussion
- round table discussion
- choice of two workshops
Our keynote speaker is Leon Furze. Leon is a PhD student, experienced educator, consultant and educational writer. His PhD is focused on Artificial Intelligence in education, and particularly the impact large language models like GPT will have on writing.
Leon’s keynote will focus on AI and its implications for career practitioners. This will be followed by Round Table discussion.
School workshops, a choice of two, from the following:

- Building your school’s career practice – Vicky Bawden, Heathdale Christian College
- Enhancing student engagement and wellbeing through career education – Cathy Cassar, Hester Hornbrook Academy
- Implementing a strategy for career education in your school – Sam Flynn, Hillcrest Christian College

Presenter information
Leon Furze
Leon Furze is a PhD student, experienced educator, consultant and educational writer. He is the author of ‘Practical Reading Strategies’ and 'Practical Writing Strategies', and a VCE assessor. Leon provides professional learning and strategic planning for curriculum, literacy, and digital technologies.
Leon has taught English, Literature and Digital Technologies in Australia and the UK for over fifteen years, and was formerly Director of Learning and Teaching at Monivae College Hamilton. In 2016 he completed his Master of Education at the University of Melbourne, focusing on how Professional Learning can mitigate the risk of burnout in teachers.
His PhD is focused on Artificial Intelligence in education, and particularly the impact large language models like GPT will have on writing.
