Description

Principals' Leadership Academy (PLA) enables Principals to advance their leadership development and provide tactical insight to lead their schools. PLA launched in 2020; three years later, it has exceeded our wildest hopes.

In 2024 the PLA Masterclass enables Principals and Deputies to learn in person with Ethan Bernstein from Harvard Business School (HBS) and experience the PLA buzz first-hand. This event will bring together alumni and other like-minded Principals and Deputies from across Australia and the Asia Pacific to experience PLA with a new case discussion, an exercise, workshop time and learn with and from Ethan in person. Masterclass content is unique and specific to this one-day event. For PLA alumni, this will be a chance to share what you learned in PLA and how you have put it into practice; for others, this will be a chance to get a quick view into what everyone has been talking about and experience PLA first-hand.

That sharing will provide a foundation for the day's theme: collaboration as a leadership competency. We will start the day with a simulation that will provide an opportunity to operate in teams and learn from each other, and we will end the day, of course, with a Harvard Business School (HBS) case study. In between, we will explore how the themes covered in PLA, along with other themes that are central to leadership today (like psychological safety and AI), help us to become better leaders of high-quality collaboration and teaming. The day will include an exercise, a case discussion, workshop time, a surprise or two, and—of course—a cherished opportunity to be together in person.

Key takeaways

  • greater understanding and practical use of principles of high-quality collaboration and teaming
  • draw on personal experience and learning while connecting to other relevant leadership topics
  • unique opportunity for Principals and Deputies to learn together and strengthen leadership skills and capabilities
  • explore leadership through a Harvard Business School learning model and case study exploration.
  • learn in person with Ethan Bernstein, Harvard Business School Professor
